The Shawnee Medical Center Clinic will be renamed St. Anthony Physicians Shawnee.
The Shawnee Medical Center Clinic is a 27-physician medical group that has 220 employees and 13 midlevel providers (physician assistants and nurse practitioners). The clinic has been providing the highest quality health care in the community for more than 40 years and has grown to become a premier multi-specialty health facility in the state of Oklahoma.
"We are both pleased and humbled that the Shawnee Medical Center Clinic has made the decision to be part of SSM Health Care, and we welcome all physicians and clinic staff," said SSM President/CEO Bill Thompson. "Together we will work to ensure exceptional care is provided to the Shawnee community and beyond."
With the finalization of the agreement, the Shawnee Medical Center Clinic will become part of the St Anthony Physicians medical group. SSM owns two hospitals in Oklahoma City: St. Anthony Hospital and Bone and Joint Hospital at St. Anthony. On March 28, SSM announced the acquisition of Unity Health Center (Shawnee, Okla.). That will bring the number of SSM hospitals in the Oklahoma region to three on June 30. The SSM of Oklahoma network also includes two St. Anthony Healthplex campuses and more than 20 affiliated hospitals.
"Because of the visionary foresight of the medical clinic's founding physicians, compounded by the hard work and commitment of past and current physicians and employees, SMCC has grown and developed into one of the premier multispecialty health facilities in the state of Oklahoma," said Jeff Griffin, CEO, Shawnee Medical Center Clinic.
"Today, the visionary leadership of our dedicated physicians has charted a new course to secure the delivery of healthcare in our community, by joining SSM Health Care of Oklahoma," Griffin added.
Said Joe Hodges, regional president/system vice president, SSMHC - Oklahoma: "This outstanding group of physicians has a long history of delivering high quality medical care in the Shawnee and surrounding communities, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to work in concert with them as the newest physicians to join SSM Health Care of Oklahoma."
